Bonhams, an auction house here, is circulating a catalog for a sale of fine furniture and decorative arts on June 11 and 12. Some of the higher-ticket items include a carved marble bust by Hiram Powers, with an estimated value of $10,000 to $15,000, and a Minton majolica cistern, with mermaids and scallop shell, similarly valued.
Once commonly referred to as a Hollywood “superagent,” Ms. Mengers died last October at the age of 79.
Having walked Hollywood’s boulevard of broken dreams she was in and out of the agency business, and long out by the time she died Ms. Mengers must have had an attachment to Lot 2676, a collection of six vinyl albums from the 1970s. It includes a couple by Barbra Streisand, a treasured client who eventually left Ms. Mengers. The lot also includes a copy of the “Heaven’s Gate” soundtrack, signed by another client, Michael Cimino, who called it “just a little something to keep you going until the picture is ready.”
Also intriguing are a pair of sketches, apparently of Ms. Mengers, by Jack Nicholson. Another portrait, by David Arquette, depicts Ms. Mengers in her familiar tinted octagonal glasses. Two pairs of those can be had among the odds and ends in Lot 2675, all of which are valued at $250 to $350.
