David Arquette is partnering up with Merv Griffin Entertainment to develop a new celebrity-based game-show called Ranking The Stars which he will also host.Stars is based on a Japanese format and has already been turned into a series in the Netherlands, Korea, and India. The show will be a cross between Hollywood Squares and Match Game, but will also play out like a roast.
Seven celebrity panelists will take part in each episode, which will most-likely become a weekly primetime series. They will be asked to rank one another on a given topic, where they are forced to admit if they think they'd be more or less likely to do something embarrassing than the celeb sitting next to them. The money they win will be given to charity.
David's grandfather, Cliff Arquette, was a regular on several old Hollywood panel shows, playing character Charley Weaver.
David told the trade paper: "A lot of my humor is from a self-deprecating place anyway. My flaws are what make me funny, and I have no problem letting people poke fun at that."
